Abstract

The current research addresses the issue of low organizational commitment among Malaysian blue-collar manufacturing employees by investigating the role of perceived organizational support. It aims to bridge medical/nursing and organizational behavior research by analyzing work-related stress, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment through sequential mediation analysis. The research is based on the job demands-resources theory and involves data from 466 blue-collar manufacturing employees in Klang Valley, Malaysia. Findings indicate that (1) perceived organizational support positively influences organizational commitment and job satisfaction, while negatively affecting work-related stress. (2) Job satisfaction positively impacts organizational commitment, whereas work-related stress negatively impacts both organizational commitment and job satisfaction. The research confirms (3) the sequential mediation of work-related stress and job satisfaction in the relationship between perceived organizational support and organizational commitment. This highlights the importance of managing work-related stress and enhancing job satisfaction to foster a supportive work environment and strengthen organizational commitment. Future research suggestions include longitudinal designs and diverse samples. Ultimately, this research can inform human resource policies for blue-collar manufacturing employees in Malaysia.
